Brave Change

I

I was recently fortunate enough to witness the birth cycle of dragonflies. Spring time near a lake is magical. They crawl out of the water, terrifying spider-like creatures, attach themselves to trees, bushes, anything they can! They shed their chrysalis and shortly after the air is thick with dragonflies. The air buzzes and it is alive.  I have always been fascinated by dragonflies. They have the ability to hover and fly in all directions. They are calm and unafraid. If you are still enough they will land on you like a comforting old friend. The most significant thing I have learned from the dragonfly is that they symbolize brave change. They can live in their nymph stage for years, but when they are reborn a dragonfly their existence only lasts a few months. They are magnificently born, these fierce warriors of the wind. Fearless, fearsome, strong, yet peaceful. I want to be more like them.

Try this exercise this week: Whenever you feel stuck or afraid, overwhelmed. Stop what you're doing, unclench the tension in your jaw, release your shoulders, sit up tall, take in a deep, powerful breath and let it out forcefully. However that may be for you, unleash some of your power. Repeat as many times as you need to release whatever may have been trapped.

Try out my Zoom class above, where we will work toward Dragonfly pose (aka Grasshopper pose). I hope you enjoy it yogis! Cheers! **
